Argentina

Copacabana

Copacabana is a silent documentary. It is silent in the sense that there is no expository text to explain historical facts or statistics, and there is no narration, and no interviews. How is this a documentary then? Copacabana documents a Bolivian community in Argentina as it celebrates the Festival of Nuestra Senora de Copacabana. Martin Rejtman, the director of the film, works backwards by showing the festival in a series of vignettes, and then shows vignettes of the community in the days leading up to the celebration, and how they prepare. Unfortunately, the film's experimental structure left me lost for a large portion of the film.
