Almodovar's back: Viva Pedro film fest and Volver

Is there another film maker quite like Spain's Pedro Almodovar?
Aside from being one of the most exuberant director personalities this side of Tarantino and Benini, the guy's movies are full taboo challenging to ridiculous humour to melodrama to showcasing the resilience of the female spirit to Hitchcockian homoerotic mysteries, vibrant colors to...you name it.
On August 11, in NYC and LA only, of course, Sony Pictures will present an Almodovar film festival called Viva Pedro which will re-release 8 of his most celebrated movies: All About My Mother, Law of Desire, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Matador, Bad Education, Live Flesh, Talk to Her and The Flower of My Secret. The festival will also "will expand to other cities throughout the fall" in the states I think.
You can check out some of the finest Spanish speaking actors (or finest actors perido) in the films of Almodovar including Almodovar's countrymen in Penelope Cruz (Live Flesh, All About My Mother) , Antonio Banderas (Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! Women on the Verge...) and Javier Bardem (Live Flesh). Mexico's Gael Garcia Bernal was also in the last Almodovar picture (Bad Education).
Almodovar also reunited with Cruz and Pepa from Women on the Verge...(Carman Maura) in the upcoming Volver which is to released in November. Volver has already won best screenplay and "best actresses" (for the ensemble performances from the leads in Cruz, Maura, Lola Dueñas, Blanca Portillo and youngster Yohana Cobo). This adds to the Best Foreign movie Oscar that Almodovar won for All About My Mother back in '99.

So....something to look forward to....in November.
