Bruce Leroy's Kung Fu theater
From December 11, 2004 - February 12, 2005 Santa Monica Museum of Art presents Black Belt, an in-depth look at an intersection between African American and Asian American cultures from the 1970s and 1980s. The nearly fifty works in different media by nineteen contemporary American artists of diverse backgrounds interpret political and philosophical connections among people of color, as well as explore their resonance in pop culture and urban life...."

The "Bruce Leroy" I think was taken from the movie the Last Dragon movie, im sure, which is also showing at the event.
Anyone remember that movie? Ha! The main character's name was Leroy (black dude obviously) and since he was into martial arts and idolized Bruce Lee, they called him 'Bruce Leroy.'
There's also an older equivalent of a name, when Jim Kelly, who played "Williams" from Enter the Dragon, broke out and did his own movie during the whole blaxploitation craze in the 70s: "Black Belt Jones." I fucking love that name, its like half Bruce Lee, half Shaft.
That theme song is also super dope, its a standard song used for break dancing still....

Of course, the Wu-Tang Clan are the biggest examples today of the Black/Asian cultural mix.
The Wu-Tang DJ, the RZA also scored Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai and did the original score for Kill Bill 1.
Him and Tarantino apparently met a party and they started talkin kung-fu flicks. The RZA's fav. movie was, I think, the 36 Chambers (hence the Wu-Tang's first CD title: Return to the 36 Chambers) and RZA asked QT if he'd seen it.
Tarantino replied: "I have it in 36mm" or some shit like that and an immediate bond was formed...ha!
