Powell Street Festival this weekend

"Colourful costumes and displays, eclectic entertainment, demonstrations of skill and strength, savoury food - sushi... tempura... salmon teriyaki - and friendly people. These are the main ingredients of the Powell Street Festival, the annual mid-summer celebration of Asian Canadian arts, history and culture in Vancouver, Canada. The Apl Song

Black Eyed Peas and Filipino-American veterans needs your love! Go help them make their new video "the Apl Song", which has a chorus sung completely in Tagalog, the top video in MTV's TRL. If you can figure out how the hell to do it on the MTV website, go vote!

They want to make it debut at number one on TRL on today of all days, because it is the "63rd anniversary of the induction of the Filipino military organizations who fought in WWII under the U.S. flag, as referenced in the video."

Show some love!

The Japenese Geek Heirarchy

Um... something about this whole list is just wrong... not the list content, but the making of it... But while I am on the topic, I would like to add that people who dress up as anime characters to go to conventions scare me. But somehow, oddly enough, people who dress up as klingons don't. Go explain that.

My big fat Indian wedding

Now before you start throwing various produce and vegetables at me... I did NOT come up with that tag line for the upcoming movie "Flavors". That's courtsey of the New YorK Magazine review department. Anyways, this new comedy about Indo-American life looks hella funny. Go now and give them your money.

Kobayashi wins again

So this may not be very ethnic, or all that cool... but this humble blogger just has a thing for competitive eating... On sunday, relatively little, 132 lbs Takeru "Tsunami" Kobayashi of Japan won his forth straight hot dog eating title with 53 hotdogs in 12 minutes. That's about one hot dog, bun included, per 13 seconds! Finishing second and third, are both sub 130lb competitors, another Japanese dude, and a woman. Who says you got to be big (or american for that matter?) to be a symbol of over consumptive Americanism?

Um... I wasn't serious about that symbol of over consumptive Americanism thing... you know, seriously, it is OKAY sometimes to just have a sense of humor about eating a ridiculous amount of hot dogs.

Japan's Kobayashi still top dog of competitive eating [Yahoo! News, thanks Laure]

Giant Robot interview

NYT interviews the founders of Giant Robot. Martin Wong and Eric Nakamura talk about opening their own restaurant, lame asian actors in mainstream movies, and being a fan boy/stalker. Hey, people in the magazine world... heads up, they have a staff of um... five (themselves included). Man, they are so punk rock.
