Tanuki: The Japanese Modern-Day God of Gluttony, Boozing, and Restauranteurs

"Tanuki, the Japanese God of Gluttony, Boozing and Restauranteurs (funny how all those things go together so well), is said to like kicking it in the forest, getting wasted on sake and waiting for hungry travelers to pass him, so he can take a bunch of horse shit and using his powers, transform it to look like a huge tasty meal. As soon as some sucker starts getting down with the meal, Tanuki lifts the spell and laughs his ass off at the moron eating horse shit. "

Read this brilliant story about Tanuki, the Magical Racoon-like dog, Japanese god of restuaranteurs, complete with a recipe for Tanuki Soba (umm... made from actual wheat noodles... not horse shit), courtesy of Franz Aliquo, Culinary Ronin for No Reservations Magazine.

Making naked concrete look totally gorgeous

"In all my works, light is an important controlling factor," says Japanese architect Tadao Ando. "I create enclosed spaces mainly by means of thick concrete walls. The primary reason is to create a place for the individual, a zone for oneself within society. When the external factors of a city's environment require the wall to be without openings, the interior must be especially full and satisfying."

Ethnic Porn

It helped usher the VCR into market success. It played a major role in the development of many ecommerce and broadband multimedia technology we now enjoy. Can porn play a similar role in the acceptance of different ethnic groups in mainstream North American culture?

Chris Mann, of Video Team, ponders such questions along with the current HIV/condom debate in the porn industry.

Gay or Socialite's Husband?

Ah, Details magazine sticks to its guns. Despite the ridiculous "scandal" resulting from last month's "Gay or Asian" feature, Whitney McNally strikes back with "Gay or Socialite's Husband." Com'on people, it was a bad skit that wasn't all that funny... but really... aren't there more important things to be protesting these days? Like... I don't know... a WAR?
