Hip-hop legend Guru dead at 43

Keith Elam, better known to his fans as hip-hop Guru, has died from cancer-related complications at the age of 43.
Guru's health had been on a roller coaster ride as of late, after having suffered a heart attack and falling into a coma on March 2. He underwent heart surgery and seemed to have recovered from that medical crisis, only to succumb to his battle with cancer on April 19.
As the other MC of legendary hip-hop duo Gang Starr, Guru - along with partner DJ Premiere - released six albums from 1989 and 2003, and was instrumental in shaping the New York hip-hop scene in the 1990's. As a solo artist, Guru was a pioneer in blending hip-hop together with jazz, through his series of Jazzmatazz records.
Guru's manager, Solar, released a statement confirming his artist's death:
"The world has lost one of the best MCs and Hip-Hop icons of all-time -- my loyal best friend, partner, and brother, Guru," he said. "Guru has been battling cancer for well over a year and has lost his battle! This is a matter that Guru wanted private until he could beat it, but tragically, this did not happen. The cancer took him. Now the world has lost a great man and a true genius."
