For all you people who will be in Vancouver on Saturday, October 24, check out the Fresh Media event happening at the brand new W2 Community Media Arts Centre at 112 East Hastings from 12:00pm-6:30pm.

Fresh Media is an initiative powered by media innovators, technologists, artists, citizens and the online community as a way to celebrate, educate and re-imagine journalism and media. This event is the first of its kind and showcases how artists, media makers and everyday people are re-inventing media and finding new ways to be innovative and creative in this age of participation.

The event features a live art and media exhibition, panels with media and industry professionals and workshops where you can play around with indie media, get to know local bloggers, have your say in speakers corner, create murals, learn to DJ, remix videos, create art and media on the spot with Fresh creators. Engage, learn and inspire - soak up the creative juices of FRESH MEDIA and pass it on!

In the midst of significant transformations happening in Canada's media system and the downpour of Vancouver 2010 Olympic media coverage, this Saturday's event arrives at an important time. We, as cultural innovators and progressive visionaries should take this opportunity and support the continuing flow of fresh, new, independent and creative media.

The FRESH Agenda for Saturday, October 24:

1. Hands on how-to workshops (arts/ new media): these will inspire participants to create their own new forms of media and information-sharing.

2. Rapid Fire Showcases: these will be a series of presentations 5 minutes or under in length, on an innovative media/arts project, product or practice.

3. Media Arts Exhibition: An interactive art-sharing and collaboration space for artists to exhibit their new pieces and create new crowd-sourced pieces on the spot.

4. What is Media Now?: A live streamed interactive panel and discussion about media, journalism and art in the 21st century with some of media/journalism's biggest doers and thinkers.

5. Meet a Blogger corner: a series of featured bloggers will share their blog in a 'world-cafe' style format -- displaying new ideas, philosophies, design, and content -- for brief time slots of 15-30 minutes.
