The VIWF 2009 is once again packed with loads of exciting events and authors. Three of my hot picks which must be checked out are Event 39 Family Fugue, Event 50 Almost Fatal Attraction and Event 51 Dig Deep (click here for my earlier review)!
Family Fugue presents us with three accomplished novelists' literary take and expertise on the complicated web and history of family relationships across generations. In Ashok Mathur's fourth novel, A Little Distillery in Nowgong, the point of view is that of an unborn child's. The story begins in the year 1899 and traces three generations as they travel through central India to the United Kingdom and North America, attempting to discover the past and future. Michael Crummey's new novel Galore, whilst rich in myth and poetry, also manages to capture the voice of the common people. The story is situated in remote Newfoundland, which serves as the home of two families' secrets, quarrels and alliances across two centuries. Our third author Kathryn Kuitenbrouwer's novel The Nettle Spinner, speaks of a family tragedy comprising three generations in Northern Ontario.
This central, popular theme of grand-scale and generational family dramas and sagas will be dwelved further into in this event which I know you wouldn't want to miss!

Almost Fatal Attraction promises us the exploration of passion, risk-taking and intense obsessions, all bundled into one unique event! The dark and natural desires of human nature will be presented by four established authors - Chelsea Cain, Lisa Foad, Joan London and Colin McAdam. They will use various literary expressions to examine the tremulous line separating adoration and ownership, excitement and danger. So, why do the sordid consequences of untethered lust, uninhibited passion and reckless independence fail to keep us at bay anyway? Attend this thrilling event to find out!
