Akufuncture | Chinese Cultural Awareness through Streetwear

Posted by Michelle D., April 22, 2009 12:42 AM |

Akufuncture.jpgWith the growing popularity of Japanese-inspired streetwear and lifestyle brands, like BAPE and Tokidoki, it was just a matter of time before Chinese culture was to also make a presence in the urban market.

Akufuncture is a new streetwear brand, specializing in T-shirts, fresh out of California. Their goal is to introduce the essence of "true Chinese culture" through "fusion fashion." Established in December 2008, Akufuncture's T-shirt line includes animated prints of the monkey king as well as updated, urban interpretations of Nezha, a Daoist protection diety.

Their designs are fresh, colourful, and culturally relevant. With support from Los Angeles-based hip hop group, M.C. Young Menace, as well as product popping up in stores like Authentix, Akufuncture will definitely be one to watch as an emerging force in the streetwear industry.
