Before Schema ever existed, there was TRACE MAGAZINE, "the international magazine focusing on transcultural styles and ideas." You may have noticed model-turned-media-mogul Tyra Banks' speak of her recent crusade to change the American concept of beauty (to include darker skinned women) ... many might say, "Where have you been, Tyra?" Trace has been at this subversive agenda for quite some time!

In their most recent Issue No. 83, Black Girls Rule! we are reminded that the pursuit for a racial equality is so tightly tied to media:

"Our Black Girls Rule issue is always about more than mere beauty." It's about the perennial habit of looking at the amazing range of human beauty and the evolutionary force that fuels this habit: curiosity about the people we're looking at-- how they got where they are, how they're getting where they're going. In light of President Elect Barack Obama's recent victory, this issue is even more timely. Guest edited by filmmaker Spike Lee, he and Tonya Lewis Lee interview Michelle Obama, the new First Lady.
