Awards!
- Joseph Boyden's win of the $50K Giller Prize for Through Black Spruce (Penguin) secures him a place in the top tier of Canadian writers. After his win, Boyden stated that receiving the award "means that I am allowed to continue writing and I will always write about the First Nations of Canada and I will always celebrate and be behind the First Nations of Canada."

- Mariko Tamaki & Jillian Tamaki's brilliant graphic novel Skim (Groundwood Books/House of Anansi Press) (shortlisted for the GG's) has been named to the NYTimes list of Best Illustrated Children's Books 2008. (Swoon!)
- Lawrence Hill's Book of Negroes (HarperCollins Canada) wins the Ontario Library Association's Evergreen Award.

- He was a poet? Handwritten poems by Métis leader Louis Riel will soon go up for auction.
- Commodore Books (the first and only literary black press in western Canada) recently re-released Crawford Killian's Go Do Some Great Thing: The Black Pioneers of British Columbia.
