Cat Soup is a surrealist black comedy directed by Tatsuo Sato and inspired by the work of manga artist Nejojiru. The award-winning anime film follows Nyatta, a kitten, on his way to the land of the dead in attempts to save his sister's soul. The film won an Excellence Prize at the 2001 Japan Media Arts Festival as well as "Best Short Film" at the Fantasia Festival that same year. In 2003, Cat Soup grabbed the Silver Award for Animation at the New York Exposition for Film and Video.

Mind Game was written and directed by Masaaki Yuasa in 2004 and is based on Robin Nishi's comic book. The film tells the story of a young, aspiring comic book artist named Nishi who has a crush on his childhood friend, Myon. When Nishi is killed for getting wrapped up in Myon's father's shady business, he tries to change the course of events that lead to his death in order to flee the afterlife.
