In a tale of "come on, give me a break," Warner Brothers, the studio behind the Harry Potter franchise, is suing the Bombay-based producer of HARI PUTTAR: A COMEDY OF TERRORS...because, well, it's kinda obvious.
The Hindi-language children's film will be released on September 12 across India -- that is, if the looming legal action doesn't delay the release of Hari Puttar. Apparently the film has been around for two years since its initial development, and it's only now that Warner Bros' lawyers have decided to raise a stink. Hey, maybe they're hard up for some drama, even some more cash (*greedy bastards*) since delaying the November 2008 release of The Half-Blood Prince to summer 2009?
Whatever the case, the plot revolves around 10-year-old Hari Prasad Dhoonda, nicknamed Hari Puttar ("Hari" is a popular boys' name in India, while "Puttar" means "son" in Punjabi) who moves to Britain with his family. Hari gets left behind at home when some thugs (one of them looks awfully like the wedding planner guy in Monsoon Wedding) decide to break-in to steal plans to his father's top secret project which are found in a computer chip hidden in the house. Can Hari Puttar save the day, without any magic wands in sight?
Man, it sounds like Home Alone more than Harry Potter.
