BLONDE REDHEAD is no stranger to New York's indie rock scene. After all, the trio, consisting of Kazu Makino and twin brothers Simone and Amedeo Pace, have been rockin' together since 2003. However, to the world of mainstream pop-rock music, Blonde Redhead has still remained on the fringes, so we're bringing you this Fresh Face in case you're lucky enough to be near one of the many festivals they'll be playing in August.
Blonde Redhead grew out of a chance meeting in a New York Italian restaurant when the Pace brothers collided with art students Makino and former member Maki Takahashi in 1993. Named after a DNA song title, the band caught the attention of Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley, who produced their self-titled debut album that year.
Since then, Blonde Redhead have recorded an impressive six more albums, their last one being 23, which was released on 4AD in 2007. Their sound is a combination of dream, psychedelic pop and subdued rock. The title track off their latest album was recently featured in an episode of Grey's Anatomy and was used in the trailer for British TV series Skins.
Blonde Redhead is doing the festival circuit in New York, Mexico City, and Paris. If you can't see them live, tie yourself over and listen to some of their tunes (under the cut)!
