Fresh Face | Meiko
This week's Fresh Face is indie folk songstress MEIKO. Born and raised in Roberta, Georgia, Meiko currently lives in Los Angeles. The 1/4 Japanese singer/songwriter released her self-released her debut album, Meiko, in September 2007, which was the No. 1 iTunes folk album for over a month. And her singles, "Reasons Why I Love You" and "Hawaii" have been featured in episodes of Grey's Anatomy.
Meiko's sound is simple, acoustic folk. Her raspy, romantic vocals are often accompanied by only piano or acoustic guitar. Those that are fans of Feist, Priscilla Ahn, and Regina Spektor are sure to love Meiko's raw, meaningful lyrics and soft sound.
Currently on tour across the States, Meiko is one of indie folks newest but brightest stars.

I was lucky enough to catch Meiko 's performance in Vancouver during a music industry conference late last year -- it's amazing to see how far she's come on her own!
The comparison to Feist is accurate, although Meiko's music is a little less 'produced' and her lyrics are much more 'relateable'...
She's less quirky that Regina Spektor...and I'm not familiar with Priscilla so maybe I'll check her out some time...
I hope she comes to play here again soon!
Seen Meiko play many times over the years. Mostly for 10 people or so. Amazing to see it all grow. Love her duet with AM called New Road. Feist I can see. Regina Spektor not so much. Check the duets album when you get a chance. AM does several duets with female singer/songwriters and I love his stuff. Side By Side is the album. www.amsounds.com is the site.
