French electronica duo Daft Punk premiered their feature filmmaking debut 'ELECTROMA' at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006. The film tells the story of two robots as they make their way across a California-like landscape devoid of people on a quest to become human, which as we know is something all robots secretly yearn for.
The Vancity Theatre will be presenting the music-video-cum-robot-epic on the big-ish screen this weekend, including two near-midnight screenings.

i saw this film at the vancouver premier back in august, and i'll just say that i've never watched ice-cream melt in desert heat for a full five minutes, nor have i watched robots walk through desert flames for a full 15 minutes. overall, i think "electroma" is a bit much, and that daft punk should just stick to what they do best, which is make me dance.
I saw this at the screening on Friday. I wasn't sure to make of it at first (though I'd been well-warned that it is an art film, so I had to weigh it against different cinematic criteria than usual). My boyfriend noted that the aim of the movie is only to make you "think," which I did a little, particularly about how scary it can be to break out of our pre-programmed everyday actions and expectations' of others. But everyone else will see something else. And I apparently have a penchant for what puts others to sleep.
