Canadian Aboriginal Festival | Toronto | Nov 30-Dec 2

The 14th annual CANADIAN ABORIGINAL FESTIVAL is a 3-day event starting Nov. 30 at Toronto's Rogers Centre. The festival is a cross-cultural event that features shopping, food, dancing, lacrosse, contemporary music and visual arts.

The festival is organized by the Indian Art-I-Crafts of Ontario, a non-profit Aboriginal organization. And this year, more than 40,000 people are expected to attend.

A major highlight of the festival is the pow wow circle. This year, 1000 native dancers from across North America will dance together. As one of the oldest and most important Aboriginal ceremonies, each pow wow will begin with the Grand Entry.

The festival will also feature musical performances from some of the top contemporary Aboriginal musicians such as Sakoeita and Niiwing Wendanamek and Burnt Project 1. The festival will also include the ninth annual Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards.

Comments

What's really interesting is that the festival spawns other kinds of cultural expression that might be more meaningful to non-Aboriginals ... it's not just about dance, but also about values, as seen in the Confidence Meets Fashion event, which is about fashion and healthy body image.
