Daft Punk could be Playing at Your House!

Posted by Michelle D., July 25, 2007 10:25 AM |

The Mayor of Vancouver should do two things this week: sit down with outdoor city workers and try to come to a conclusion about the strike, and declare this week "City-wide Daft Punk Week"!

With the Makeout's "I heart Daft Punk" dance party happening at the Royal Unicorn Cabaret on Wednesday, those that are heading down to Seattle for the Daft Punk show this weekend will be even more psyched. For those of us who can't get away this weekend, be one of the lucky few in Vancouver to witness the worldwide premier of Daft Punk's Electroma this Saturday at midnight.

Daft Punk's Electroma, and party afterwards
Saturday, July 28th @ Midnight
111 E. Pender Street, Vancouver

Daft Punk's Electroma is about the quest of two robots to become human. Shot primarily in Independence, California, the 74 minute film, tracks the two robots as they trek through the desert towards their doom. While Daft Punk is best known for being one of the most commercially successful electronic bands in the world, this movie features music by Todd Rundgren, Sebastien Tellier, Linda Perhacs and Brian Eno, but none by the DJ-ing duo.

Daft Punk consists of Parisian musicians Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. The DJs have previously shot three of their own videos, and cite the last two, "Robot Rock" and "Technologic", as the inspiration behind creating this feature film. Like the videos, Bangalter says they wanted to "create without any rules or standards."

Daft Punk's Electroma was first shown at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2006. In March 2007, the film premiered in Paris at midnight, and was very highly received. While the DVD is due out this September, lucky fans that can get their name on the guestlist will have a taste of it first this Saturday.
