This popular drink has generated a huge following of devoters and addicts throughout North America, especially in the West and East coast of the continent. In Vancouver, the drink has produced a 'Bubble Tea Culture'.
First, the origins of 'Bubble Tea':

It's been said the drink was invented in Tai Chung, Taiwan by a man who owned a tea shop in the early 1980's. He experimented with cold milk teas by adding in different flavors of syrup, candied yams, beans, and tapioca. Initially, the drink was not a hit among the Taiwanese, but after appearing on a Japanese program 'Bubble Tea' gained popularity with Japanese businessmen--All things 'cool' to the Japanese usually becomes 'cool' with the Taiwanese. The drink became well-known in Taiwan and Asia during the 1990s.
In Taiwan, there are countless stands and tea shops selling bubble tea. The menu boards feature row after row of drink varieties and extra additions of goodies that you could add to your drink (pearls, coconut jelly, grass jelly, lemon jelly).
In North America, Bubble Tea has infiltrated the malls and the universities where devotees would line up to purchase their very own bubble tea to take with them ior so long that it's "old news" to talk about it...while at the same time nostalgic. Even better Bubble-Tea is no longer just an 'Asian thing', it's for everyone!

The "milk" bubble-tea stores use is actually just Coffee Mate in unbelievably large quantities (usually around more than 6 heaping tablespoons of the white powder). That's a whole lot of calories into your delicious cup of heaven. Along with the pearls (at 7 calories each!), a bubble tea is equivalent to a meal.

I recognize the BBT place in the small picture of the selection of drinks. I think it's Dragon Ball on king edward and oak in Vancouver. One of my favourite places ^^. Their lychee/litchi yogo slush with water base is really good.
So, what do you think about
