Canadian National Anthem Sung in 'Cree'?

HNIC.jpg

Hockey Night in Canada fans are in for a treat - finally, an addition of 'culture' to the game of sticks and puck. For the game 'Flames vs. Canucks' at Calgary's Saddledome on February, 3rd, 2007 8:00 PM on CBC...

...the Canadian national anthem will be sung by Akina Shirt, a 13 year old girl from the Victoria School of Performing and Visual Arts. The anthem will be sung in 'Cree', the language of the group of First Nation's People.

'Cree':

A Native American people inhabiting a large area from eastern Canada west to Alberta and the Great Slave Lake. Formerly located in central Canada, the Cree expanded westward and eastward in the 17th and 18th centuries, the western Cree adopting the Plains Indian life and the eastern Cree retaining their woodland culture.

Her rendition of (O'Canada') - "Ka Kanatahk" is a tribute to the founding roles of the First Peoples in the formation of Canada.

Now, I'd like to see her release some aboriginal 'whoopass' on 'Canadian Idol' !
She gets brownie points in my book for being a cultural icon, young talented singer, and looking like America Ferrera, eh?? ('Golden Globe Best Actress' winner of 'Ugly Betty')

Visit http://www.akinashirt.com to convince her to join Canadian Idol please.
