(Though to not much surprise) Today's Oscar nominations reflect a more worldy and colorful picture this year

On the trail of the Golden Globes and other film circuit awards, the Oscar nominations announced today continued the year of a wide array of diverse and global pictures and roles (in terms of ethnicity, nationality, age, sex).
The Schema worthy mentions...
The Schema worthy mentions: Babel, the movie in English, Arabic, Japanese, Spanish, and Berber, lead the way with its best picture and director nomination for Mexican director, Alejandro Iñárritu, along with fellow Mexicans Alfonso Cuaron who's Children of Men garnered 3 nominations and Guillermo del Toro's Pan’s Labyrinth also got 3 nods. Clint Eastwood's Letters from Iwo Jima which is mostly in Japanese, Penelope Cruz for best actress in a Spanish speaking role in Volver (though it was somehow not nodded for best foreign pic!!)
4 nods for black Americans in the acting deparment: Forrest Whitaker for best actor for playing Ugandan dictator, Idi Amin in the Last King of Scotland, Will Smith for best actor in the Pursuit of Happyness, Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson both for best supporting actors in Dreamgirls, Helen Mirren (61) for the Queen, Judi Dench (72) for Notes on a Scandal and Meryl Streep (57) for the Devil Wears Prada ["thereby significantly exceeding the official career cutoff for Hollywood actresses. (What is it, 23?)], Canadian Deepa Mehta's Water for best foreign pic, a best supporting nod for Babel's Rinko Kikuchi and....................a best adapted screenplay nomination for Mr. Sacha Baron Cohen.
