Citizenship and Diversity in Multicultural Societies: Canadian Experience and Implications for Korea. Kyung Hee University, Seoul
I was invited to contribute a paper and to speak at the international conference organized by the Korean Association of Canadian Studies, which took place at Kyung Hee University, Seoul, South Korea. The overall theme of the event was Canada's multiculturalism and a day's worth of sessions concerning Canada's citizenship issues and diversity. The participants were a mix of academics, students, government officials and NGO staff.
It was interesting to hear about what issues around diversity are emerging as a result of immigration in South Korea. In particular, what issues around identity are emerging as a result of mixed-race children in rural parts of South Korea. The insight I gained about how multiculturalism works in different (non-Canadian) context was invaluable.
Special Thanks to:
Eugene Lee, President of the Korean Association of Canadian Studies.
He is also a Professor in the Department of Political Science at Sookmyung University, Yongsan-Ku, Seoul, Korea.
And also to Jinseog Yu, the Secretary General of the Korean Association for Canadian Studies (KACS). He is also the director of the Sookmyung Institute for Multicultural Studies (SIMS), which co-organized the conference.
