Overwhemling Response from Vancouver Screening
Wish you could have been there! The preview screening of the complete two-part series was amazing. One of the best Q&A sessions ever -- it just couldn't end. And then all the talent and MCs were mobbed by the crowd after the screening. Photos are coming. The feedback from some of Vancouver's most influential Asian Canadians has begun to come in:
A mind-blowing suspense thriller that keeps you sitting on the edge of your seat. A white-knuckled roller coaster ride driven by this fantastic all-Asian cast. Byron Mann thrills, Lawrence Chou chills, and Eric Tsang is, well, classic Eric Tsang. CBC has a hit on its hands!

Dear Annie,
Everyone of my friends had nothing but superlatives for the show DRAGON BOYS! ... One friend who cannot sit though 2 hours of movie sat through 4 hours without getting antsy. She was so riveted by the entire show! Another who does not particularly like crime shows enjoyed the movie so which was so well done with an increible cast. We look forward anxiously for DRAGON BOYS 2.
Thank you [to] the author, crew, great cast and for the CAC for making the afternoon so enjoyable. It was one of the best and well done movie we have experienced.
Thank you for the popcorn and drinks, too.
May I know what channel and station the TV airing on Jan 7 & 8?
Thank you once again.

Hi, Annie,
My daughter and I attended the showing of "Dragon Boys" on Sunday and [we] sat riveted through the entire show.
Thank you very much for putting us on the list for the tickets. I will be posting my remarks to the shemamag website at a later date.
I was really surprised to see that there is a "Canadianized Asian Club" at SFU. When I attended SFU - I graduated in 1973; there was a Chinese Students' Club where I felt completely alienated from the HK types because I was Canadian-born. Good to see that things do change for the better!
Yours,
Tom Wong

That was definitely a great event! It's so refreshing to see an Asian cast take some lead roles on the screen here in Canada. I was also very glad to see that the characters weren't all portrayed as carrying thick accents - one of them even has a caucasian wife!
Trudy, to answer your question, Dragon Boys is airing on CBC Television: which, I believe, is channel 3 in Vancouver. Here's a link that you may find helpful: http://www.cbc.ca/programguide/program/index.jsp?program=Dragon+Boys+(Part+1)+(2006)#

If you missed the premiere of Dragon Boys on the Dec 17, I suggest you see it on Jan 7 and 8. I have to say it was an awesome show, the characters were unbelieveable and the plot kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Byron Mann, Tzi Ma, Simon Wu, Eric Tsang and all the other actors were fantasic. I am looking forward to watching it again on Jan 7 & 8. Good Job!!!

I was very impressed with the show! The acting was very well done, the story was concrete and everything appeared seamless. In addition, many of the realities of growing up as a Chinese Canadian have been captured as well as the difficulty and hardship faced by many trying to identify themselves in a hybrid culture. Just very well done, I cannot stress that enough.

Hey there,
My thoughts on Dragon Boys. I attended with 3 of my acquaintances and we all considered the series so far as genuine, powerful, and electrifying. I believe the story was very down-to-earth and truly portrayed what the environment is like for a lot of people. Overall, it was an awesome job well done! *2 thumbs up*

I thoroughly enjoyed this show even though I'm usually not a big fan of violent or gangster films. I was very intrigued from beginning to end. Besides the violence and crimes, I thought there was a very special emotional element to it that almost brought tears to my eyes. It was very touching to see the unique bonds that formed between the characters. Can't wait to see more!

Hey Dragon Boys!
The movie is a MUST WATCH! I helped volunteer at the premiere, and I remembered them testing it before hand. From just a glimpse of the movie, I knew it was gonna be a great movie! If you've seen this movie, you were probably sitting on the edge of your seat! I am actually telling most of my friends to watch this on Jan 7 and 8th! I can't wait for Dragon Boy's 2 too! Or something similar to this!

Even my guy buddies who're usually far from being interested in whether Asian representation and Asian content is present in Western media, was so drawn in by DB after Pt. 1 that many of them were excited to see and made it an effort to catch pt. 2..It was so fun to watch and try to point out the different locations in Vancouver that was filmed in DB and definately easy on the eyes to watch Byron or "BANANA BOY" tackle crime!

I think Dragon Boys was one of the smartest moves that the CBC has made in a while. Finally there's a show that caught a wide range of audience. Not simply the Asian Canadian viewers but cross sections of society because of its Soprano-like storyline and compelling characters. My only complaint would be that it didn't get enough advertising. I'm really hoping that the mini-series comes back as a series. I think the show is ripe for new stories and various issues that face Canada. Thank you CBC for taking such a risk on the show and really showing a new direction in its programming. Risky, edgy and contemporary. Plus Eric Tsang - simply the best I've seen in English Canadian programming.
